Marcelo Bielsa watched on at Elland Road on Friday afternoon as Leeds United's Under-23 side went from 2-0 up to draw 2-2 with Burnley's second string - and some fans have reacted to Gaetano Berardi's display.
The 30-year-old has missed the last six Championship matches through a knee injury, after starring at centre-back during the early part of the campaign under Bielsa.
He returned to action on Friday afternoon and played the entire 90 minutes as Carlos Corberan's Leeds surrendered a two-goal advantage to draw 2-2 with Premier League side Burnley.
Berardi started and finished the match at left wing-back and gave Leeds the lead from a corner, heading home via two deflections. The one-time Switzerland international has only ever scored one goal for the Whites.
Kemar Roofe, also playing for the Whites alongside first-team stars Adam Forshaw, Jamal Blackman, Lewis Baker, Jamie Shackleton and Jack Clarke, scored the second with a precise finish inside the box.
But Burnley came back and scored goals through Dwight McNeil and Ollie Younger, leaving Corberan's side frustrated with a 2-2 draw that really should have seen them score four or five in the first half.
Leeds fans reacted to former Sampdoria defender Berardi's display, applauding the versatile defender for his goal and he could now be available for October 20's trip to Blackburn Rovers - with Luke Ayling out and Barry Douglas doubtful.
Clarke is class. Roofe looking sharp considering he’s been out for a while. Berardi solid and we generally look good...however, I hate to say it but what is the point of Forshaw? Looks distinctly average in an u21s game. Whatever the question might be.... he is not the answer ♂️— JWC (@TheJackyCalv) October 12, 2018
Fantastic news and delighted to see Berardi and Roofe in today's U23 squad!!— WAFLL #GTTO (@RyanLUFC92) October 12, 2018
Come Blackburn they'll be like new signings and it's clear losing them and Hernandez cost us our very strong start.
Our Season starts again next Saturday! #lufc #MOT
It breaks my heart we weren’t at Elland Road to see Berardi score. We were there in spirit you beautiful man.— Louisa Wade (@LouisaWade_) October 12, 2018
the @EFL are apparently looking into whether Berardi used excessive force on the Burnley defence— Brian Moore (@BriMoo9) October 12, 2018
Even Chuck Norris is scared of Berardi https://t.co/mhsxs4kDnw— Mark Mortimer (@morti59) October 12, 2018
