Smith has left Brentford to become the new manager of Championship rivals Villa.
As often with such cases, the 47-year-old could decide to sign one or two players from Brentford in the summer transfer window.
After all, the Englishman knows the players at Brentford well and will know which ones would suit Villa.
Brentford Sporting Director Giles has suggested that the Bees will be open to selling players to Villa, but not if they are in the top six of the Championship table in January.
Football.London quotes Giles as saying about Smith raiding Brentford: "If he wants to make offer then we can accept or decline those offers as we wish.
"If they want to offer massive money for one of our players then it might be in our interest to sell the player, I don't know. There is no restriction to stop him going after our players."
The Brentford sporting director added: "If we're in the top six or the top two in January we won't be selling players.”
Pushing for promotion
Although Villa’s performances and results so far this season have not been great, the Villans are very much in the running for the Championship playoffs.
One should not surprised if in the coming weeks and months Villa climb up the table and find themselves in the top two.
