Everton youngster Antonee Robinson has been criticised, after facing one of the toughest tests of his career last night.
The Everton youngster was selected to start for America against Colombia, but he found his task difficult.
Robinson has earned great praise from American fans throughout his career so far, but the USA lost 4-2 in the fixture.
And many US fans have criticised the Everton full-back’s display during the contest.
One thing I think we take from this match is that Antonee Robinson isn’t the golden boy we hoped he would be. He needs to improve a vast amount if he is going to be the future. He struggles against quick, athletic, technical forwards and can’t defend 1-2s— USMNT Clips (@USMNTClips) October 12, 2018
Always interesting to observe #USMNT fans suddenly realize when they’ve vastly overrated a player. I get that we’re eager to have a solid/consistent LB, but fact is, Robinson never showed anything to merit being considered better than even Villafana.— lowerwolves15 (@lowerwolves15) October 12, 2018
3 goals on Robinson, and one that was just undefendable (Borja). Some good moments from #USMNT . I remain optimistic about the team's future.— Adrian (@a517dogg) October 12, 2018
So much for #USMNT . Mediocre team and not much to look forward to. Antonee Robinson and Michael Bradley were both terrible.— rmt834 (@rmt834) October 12, 2018
No matter what, these friendly games are a good learning lesson and experience for these young @ussoccer_mnt players.— IAN PAUL JOY (@JOYPAULIAN) October 12, 2018
However Antonee Robinson is not the answer at left back for the #USMNT - far too many poor performances. Positional play is terrible.
If I took a shot every time the announcers said “Robinson caught in the wrong spot” I’d be blackout drunk and possibly dead from alcohol poisoning. #USMNT— Julie Hoolie (@julieeejackson) October 12, 2018
Everton have loaned out Robinson to Bolton Wanderers this term, to help him gain valuable match experience.
Robinson is very highly regarded at Goodison Park, but it appears he still has a lot to learn before he is ready to play at the top level.
Breaking into Everton’s first-team in the near future could be a tough test for Robinson.
Everton already have Lucas Digne and Leighton Baines competing for the left-back slot, which makes it tough for the youngster.
