Newcastle United defender DeAndre Yedlin has been criticised by American fans for his display against Colombia.
USA were beaten 4-2 by Colombia yesterday, with Newcastle man Yedlin struggling to cope.
Yedlin was caught out defensively on occasion, as Colombia carved open the USA defence regularly.
And the Newcastle man failed to avoid the criticism his team were getting on social media website Twitter.
Antonee Robinson reminds me a lot of DeAndre Yedlin early in his career. Great going forward, but some serious defensive flaws. I hope he can put this game behind him.— Future USMNT (@FutureUsmnt) October 12, 2018
Honestly Yedlin isn’t that much better even now.— ProudNewPapa (@Pantsalot11) October 12, 2018
Colombia brought their A- squad. There were good spells for us. Stefffan still hasn’t convinced me and Yedlin was not very good. Most of the backline has trouble. But Kellyn scored and wood scored.— Bryan (@JonesyB13) October 12, 2018
Didn’t expect much from @ussoccer_mnt missing the 3 best players, but disappointing to get so thoroughly dominated for all but about 10-15 minutes. Positives were Weah, Wood and Acosta. Yedlin had a poor game. Hopefully in November they can have the complete team. #USACOL— Randy Morgan (@jrmorgan16) October 12, 2018
Yedlin is awful as well. Gives the ball away and is terrible with it at his feet.— Jon Tweet (@jontweet1978) October 12, 2018
Damn Columbia rocked us and Yedlin is trashh— Fabe (@activepro818) October 12, 2018
Yedlin is arguably the most proven defender in America’s team, so he is held to high standards when playing for his national team.
Newcastle fans have already seen the best and worst of Yedlin this season.
The rapid full-back is a real threat going forward, but he can be caught out defensively, due to his desire to go on the attack so regularly.
When Yedlin does return from the international break, Newcastle’s first match comes against Brighton & Hove Albion.
