Stan Collymore has weighed in on a Twitter debate over which is the bigger club: Aston Villa or Leeds United.
A Villa fan and former Villans' player, Collymore inadvertently sparked the discussion himself, tweeting after his old side's 2-1 defeat against Millwall on Saturday:
Dear Villa,— Stan Collymore (@StanCollymore) October 6, 2018
You've tried everything from smart arse CEO's to promotion specialists, players who've had 3 great games at this level, paying fortunes for them
Ask Villa people NOW what they think and want, because enough is enough.
Aston Villa, not fit for purpose.#UTV #VTID
The pundit's post prompted this response from a Leeds United supporter, before a lengthy debate ensued:
Or maybe only villa fans and the odd ex villa player actually believe Villa are a big club? ♂️— Paul Fox (@Foxytwentyone) October 6, 2018
But Collymore chimed in again after another wrote:
AVFC 1874 LUFC 1919, take the 46 year difference into account makes it less impressive (also, Leeds was a RL city until Revie). Twitter disparity is coz AV were in the Prem during financial & social media booms, LU weren’t— Dougie Jones (@senojdw) October 9, 2018
The former England striker's tweet read:

Major final in every decade they've existed.
70% of 105 top flight years in top TEN.
5th biggest trophy haul in England.
7 major trophies(joint 15th with WBA)
Seasons in top flight since Leeds foundation 100 years ago.
Aston Villa 78
Leeds 50 https://t.co/phyEs9PmVi
Both founder members of the English Premier League, the pair currently find themselves competing at second tier level, with this Aston Villa's third successive season outside of the top division and Leeds' 15th.
The Yorkshire club spent three of those in League One, but have made a strong start to the new campaign and find themselves a point outside the automatic promotion spots in third.
In contrast, Villa sit 15th in the standings and are without a manager after sacking Steve Bruce last week.
Is Collymore right about Aston Villa and Leeds United?
