Celtic reportedly tried to sign Jadon Sancho from Premier League champions Manchester City before he moved to Borussia Dortmund.

With more assists than any other player in Europe and celebrating a maiden call-up to England’s senior squad, Jadon Sancho’s decision to turn down a contract at Manchester City in 2017 is looking like an inspired one these days.

With Sancho starring at Dortmund, Celtic fans could be forgiven for wondering what might have been.

According to the Sun (21 April 2017, page 63), the Scottish Premiership champions were hoping to lure Sancho to Parkhead and the success enjoyed by a number of other City starlets in Glasgow, from Patrick Roberts to Jason Denayer, appeared to stand them in good stead.

But it is testament to how rapidly the 18-year-old has developed in Germany that, just 18 months after those links emerged, Sancho is being tipped to become one of the most expensive players in football history.

According to the Mirror, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal are all following Sancho closely. And Dortmund believe that they could end up making £100 million if the teenage superstar does eventually return to England, having produced seven assists already this season despite starting just one league game.

Sancho is a world class talent in the making who could be a key player for England for years to come. This is certainly one that got away for Celtic.
