Aston Villa talk a serious transfer boost for Celtic fans

Celtic board have to back Brendan Rodgers in January if he stays and rejects Aston Villa.

Brendan Rodgers has won six domestic trophies in two seasons at Celtic and is hoping to set further records at the club.

His achievements at Celtic have seen his reputation rise, and the latest club to be linked with trying to lure him away is Aston Villa, report The Mail.

For the first time in three years, Rodgers seems to be on rocky ground at Celtic after a turbulent summer in the transfer window.

 

For now the smart money seems to be on Rodgers sticking around at Celtic and Aston Villa being forced to look elsewhere.

Providing Rodgers does stay, Villa's interest has the potential to play into his hands.

It's clear that if Rodgers wanted to, he could leave Celtic tomorrow and quickly find an attractive job at a big club in England.

Celtic need to give him reason to stay, as next summer another club will likely come calling.

The Scottish champions need to back Rodgers in the next transfer window, and demonstrate they can let him build the side he wants to.

Celtic failed to sign top transfer target John McGinn in the summer, sold star striker Moussa Dembele, and face losing best defender Dedryck Boyata on a free next summer.

Rodgers needs to be allowed to spend freely in January with proceeds from the Dembele sale.

Aston Villa's recent interest should be a wake up call to Celtic, and if the board did not realise it already, this can provide the extra kick they needed.
