According to the Daily Star, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers would be tempted by a move to Aston Villa if they make him their top managerial target this month.

Villa sacked Steve Bruce on Wednesday and saw interim boss Kevin MacDonald lose 2-1 away at Millwall on Saturday afternoon as the search for a new manager begins.

A new manager will be wanted over the international break, and whilst a host of names have been touted, Celtic's Rodgers is possibly the most illustrious in terms of his managerial record.

Most believe that such a move would be verging on impossible, but the Daily Star report that Rodgers could be tempted to make the move if the job was offered to him.

It's stated that Rodgers feels he has taken Celtic as far as he can amid budget restrictions, and whilst he would prefer a Premier League move, Villa are a huge club and could just tempt him to Villa Park.

Villa are 'expected' to try their luck at luring Rodgers back to English football, three years since he was sacked by Liverpool and replaced with Jurgen Klopp.

There may well be some truth to the idea that Rodgers feels his time at Celtic is winding down, and a move back to English football would be on his radar, but a switch to Villa would be a huge surprise.

Leaving Celtic for the Championship – even to a club of Villa's size and stature – would be a step down for Rodgers right now, and he may be better off waiting for a Premier League job to become available if he is really looking to engineer a Celtic exit.
