After spending eight years building a dynasty at Ostersunds, surely Graham Potter isn’t going to leave Swansea City after just 11 league games in South Wales.
That is the view of Swansea supporters anyway as they dismiss speculation linking their promising young manager with the suddenly leaderless Aston Villa.
Villa sacked Steve Bruce on Wednesday and, according to The Mail, Potter is one of the names on their shortlist. The report adds that Thierry Henry, Dean Smith, Carlos Carvalhal, Paulo Fonseca and even former captain John Terry are in the frame with the Midland giants casting their net far and wide.
But Potter seems very unlikely given that he signed a three-year deal at the Liberty Stadium as recently as June. After arriving, the man who took Ostersunds from the Swedish third tier to the Europa League knockout rounds told the BBC that there was no quick fix to Swansea’s problems and that he was in it for the long haul.
Such comments haven’t been forgotten by Swansea supporters. So Aston Villa could be wasting their time here.
Not going to happen yet John. Way Potter is going so far, destined for bigger things than Villa, who have a big fanbase and great history. Rodgers or Dean Smith would do a good job there.

Daily Mail reporting that Graham Potter is ‘an option’ for the Aston Villa job. Pep Guardiola is also an option, as is my dog. Ridiculous reporting.— Josh Kilmister (@joshkilmister) October 3, 2018
Potter doesn’t strike me as the guy who’ll go for a quick pay cheque anyway. He came to build something with Swans.— Rhys Davies (@rhysthejack) October 3, 2018
