The absence of Barry Bannan allowed Tottenham Hotspur's Josh Onomah to make only the second start of his Sheffield Wednesday loan spell, against West Bromwich Albion. And the England Under-21 international failed to disappoint.
It was from his assist that Adam Reach opened the scoring - although in fairness it was Reach's laser-guided left foot that did most of the work - while Wednesday's second goal - dispatched by Fernando Forestieri - was sparked by an Onomah-led counter-attack.
Defensively, too, the Tottenham academy product impressed, working tirelessly alongside Joey Pelupessy - the pair winning countless tackles and interceptions between them. And at the time of Onomah's departure in the 82nd minute, any result other than a Sheffield Wednesday win seemed very unlikely.
Two quickfire goals later, however, and Wednesdayites were left ruing the 21-year-old's withdrawal - after he appeared to pick up a knock.
Simple, that game changed when Onomah went off, he was winning everything in the middle, gutted to throw it away, but to 95 percent of the time keep the best front two quiet, up until 85th did not want It to end but at 2-2 was only going to be one winner— Karl Fox (@KDF1990KDF) October 3, 2018
Thought everyone was exceptional tonight for the first 80 mins, best I've seen all season. Onomah and Palmer stood out for me. #swfc— Alexandra Booth (@AlexandraBooth5) October 3, 2018
Forestieri tonight was superb, link up with Nuhiu outstanding. Adam Reach doesn't score tap in's. Been fantastic the last three games. Onomah looked terrific, Palmer as well. #swfc— Tom Taylor-Batty (@TomTB1995) October 3, 2018
@domhowson thought Onomah had a cracking game. Assisted the reach goal also.— BMH (@BarrieOwl) October 3, 2018
Thought Liam Palmer played well tonight and Onomah and that’ll probs be the easiest 80 mins of footy we’ll play all season. Poor substitutions again and it now feels like a defeat. Oh well could be worse I could support Leeds.. UTO— Matt (@mattdb29) October 3, 2018
