Trent Alexander-Arnold endured a difficult night as Liverpool were beaten by Serie A giants Napoli in Wednesday’s Champions League clash.

After a 100% to the season, Liverpool have now failed to win in three successive games in all competitions. And while those matches were against Chelsea, Chelsea again and Napoli, it seems a recent blip in form has some fans worried.

Though it wasn’t just the result in Wednesday’s Champions League clash at Napoli, a 1-0 defeat sealed by a late Lorenzo Insigne winner, but the performance that left supporters frustrated.

Jurgen Klopp’s usually free-flowing and exciting side were shackled brilliantly by Carlo Ancelotti’s Italians, failing to produce a single shot on target throughout 90 minutes before being almost entirely dominated in the second half at the Stadio San Paolo.

And one man in particular endured a difficult night in Southern Italy. Trent Alexander-Arnold has not had many off-days since he exploded onto the scene but he certainly struggled in midweek.

It is easy to forget that the right-back is just 19 years of age at times but the Liverpool-born wonderkid showed a few moments of naivety against Napoli, being caught out of position on a number of occasions while failing to produce quality deliveries at the other end.

Alexander-Arnold has been a revelation at Anfield, however, so it would be unfair to describe his Napoli display as anything other than a rare blip from a young and still inexperienced player. His critics would do well to remember that.
