Ian Wright has advice for in-form Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge

Daniel Sturridge is back in form again and scored a wonderful equaliser in Liverpool's Premier League draw away at Chelsea on Saturday.

Chelsea must be sick of the sight of Daniel Sturridge.

The striker they sold to Liverpool in 2013 has come back to haunt his former club twice in the last week, scoring a brilliant acrobatic volley in the midweek EFL Cup clash before snatching a point at Stamford Bridge on Saturday with an outstanding long-range strike in the dying seconds.

Liverpool fans, however, will be thrilled to see Sturridge showing that genuine world-class quality again. After a horrible run of injuries, and a forgettable loan spell at relegated West Brom in the second half of last season, the 29-year-old looked finished at Anfield.

But he has performed an unexpected U-turn and suddenly become a crucial part of Jurgen Klopp’s team. And former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has encouraged the England international to do everything to secure a long-term future on Merseyside.

"Sturridge’s contract at Liverpool runs out at the end of this season. But the word is, the club are ready to offer him a new deal — and if I were him I would snap it up,” Wright wrote in his column for the Sun.

“He may have concerns at being fourth-choice behind Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane in the striking pecking order at Anfield. But Daniel is at a stage of his career when he does not need to be picked all the time.

“They are a club going places. They reached the Champions League final last season with a squad not as strong as the one they have now.

“It looks like they are the only ones capable of challenging Manchester City for the Premier League title. Why would you be in a hurry to leave that club?”

Sturridge has already scored four goals in seven games for Liverpool this season, including a bullet header in the Reds’ 3-2 Champions League victory against Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield.

With Liverpool aiming to compete in a number of competitions this season, Sturridge could be a brilliant option in reserve for a side who were perhaps a little over-reliant on their much-vaunted front three in recent months.

Daniel Sturridge of West Bromwich Albion goes of injured during the Premier League match between Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge on February 12, 2018 in London, England.
