Abraham featured for Villa in their Championship class against City away from home at the Ashton Gate Stadium on Friday evening.
The 20-year-old striker started the game and was taken off in the first minute of injury time, as it ended in a 1-1 draw.
When the England international - who earns £50,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com - was being substituted, visiting Villa fans chanted ‘You don’t know what you’re doing’, as reported by The Birmingham Mail.
Villa manager Bruce has explained his decision to take off Abraham when the game was 1-1, saying that the Chelsea-owned striker was injured.
Bruce told The Birmingham Mail: “Do you think I want to take my striker off that late on when we’re trying to get a goal? Tammy was struggling with a calf injury, and might have come off 15 minutes earlier.”
Satisfying Aston Villa fans
Villa fans were not happy with Bruce during the match, with many chanting for him to go, but the manager’s explanation about Abraham should satisfy the supporters.
It would have been a major risk for Abraham to carry on playing with an injury, and that Bruce kept him on for that long underlined his intent to win the game.
