Steven Gerrard praises Liverpool star Roberto Firmino

Steven Gerrard has been impressed with Liverpool ace Roberto Firmino.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has spoken highly of Liverpool star Roberto Firmino on BBC Radio 5 Live.

Liverpool legend Gerrard, who was appointed the Rangers manager in the summer, has hailed Firmino - who can operate as a forward or as a winger - as an absolute genius.

The former England international midfielder has also said that he has followed the Brazil international for a long time, and has praised him for scoring goals as well as creating chances.

Gerrard told BBC Radio 5 live about Firmino: “The key to it all is Firmino. He doesn’t get as much attention as the other two, but for me he is the key, the most important thing.”

The Rangers boss added: “Certainly Firmino, he’s an absolute genius when you watch him close up. I have followed him a lot. He is just as interested in setting someone up as scoring a goal, which is great.”

Quality footballer

Firmino is one of the best players in the Premier League and is a key member of the current Liverpool team.

The 26-year-old attacked has scored two goals and provided two assists in six Premier League appearances for Liverpool so far this season, according to WhoScored.

During the 2017-18 campaign, the Brazil international scored 15 goals and provided seven assists in 34 league starts for the Reds, according to WhoScored.

Firmino joined Liverpool from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2015 for a fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £29 million.
