Is this the year Erik Lamela gets back on track?
Amid Tottenham’s up and down month, winger Erik Lamela has been the biggest bright spot.
Since returning from a groin injury which delayed his start to the season, Lamela looks better than ever and has found the net with regularity.
Lamela has two Premier League goals this season already, without even starting a game, and netted in midweek in the Carabao Cup.
His three goals in five games are just one shy of the four he scored in 32 appearances in all competitions last season.
Lamela’s Tottenham career has been difficult since signing from Roma in 2013.
He struggled in his first two seasons before a breakout third season in which he scored 11 goals in total in 2015/16.
Five of these came in the Premier League, with a further six in the Europa League.
Lamela seemed set to fulfil his potential, before hip injury cost him more than a year of his career.
Last season was all about just getting back to fitness, and now he appears primed to kick on.
He is even overtaking Lucas Moura as Tottenham’s most in form attacking threat.
With Christian Eriksen out, Spurs need Lamela to start this weekend as they re-shuffle their options.
He is easily on course to score his highest total yet, especially in the Premier League, and finally it looks like this may be Lamela’s season.
