West Bromwich Albion crashed out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, with Sam Field's performance prompting plenty of reaction.

A number of West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Sam Field's performance during the Baggies' 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace on Tuesday night.

Darren Moore's men went into the clash with the top flight side off the back of an excellent run of form that had taken West Brom up to third in the Championship.

But Palace controlled much of the game. While their last two goals came in the final 15 minutes at The Hawthorns, the Eagles never looked particularly troubled after taking a sixth-minute lead.

It was a difficult night for West Brom, and amongst the Baggies players who struggled was Sam Field. The academy prospect is clearly destined for a bright future, but he did not enjoy the best night of his career.

And while a number of Baggies fans were critical of Field's display, much of the criticism was actually aimed at Moore with the youngster featuring at centre-back as part of a back three. The gamble did not pay off, and it would be a big surprise if he was involved in that role again anytime soon if Moore can avoid it.

There were some supporters who felt that Field's performance highlighted that he is still not ready for regular first-team football, but most of the fans on social media seemed to have sympathy for the youngster given that few would have expected him to be used as a defender during this cup run.
