Manchester United have crashed out of the Carabao Cup after a shock home defeat to Derby County on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils didn't impress in a 1-1 home draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon, and fans were hoping for an instant return with a win over Championship side Derby.

The big story heading into the game was that Mourinho's former Chelsea star Frank Lampard is in charge of Derby and was looking to claim a statement win over his old boss.

United did though get off to the perfect start as Juan Mata swept home the opening goal inside the first three minutes, but that's about as good as it got for United.

Derby equalised in the second half when Harry Wilson sent a stunning long-range free kick into the net, and Sergio Romero's red card enabled the Rams to take full control, with Jack Marriott heading the ball home from Mason Mount's saved shot.

Derby were two minutes away from the win, but Marouane Fellaini popped up with a dramatic late equaliser, sending the game straight into penalties - and after a host of outstanding spot kicks, Phil Jones' effort was saved by Scott Carson to give Derby their shock victory.

Liverpool fans unsurprisingly took to Twitter to hail winger Wilson given that he is on loan from the Anfield club, and urged Jurgen Klopp to use him next season, believing that Liverpool have a hugely exciting player on their hands.

Reds striker Rhian Brewster joined in with the praise for his teammate, tweeting about the Welshman's remarkable goal as Wilson hit the headlines with a screamer against Liverpool's famous rivals.
