The 28-year-old Scotland international said after the match that he wants to be the first-choice striker for the Hoops, as quoted in The Daily Record.

Celtic legend Dalglish has praised the attitude of Griffiths - who has been on the books of Celtic since January 2014 when he joined from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Mail to be worth £1 million.

Dalglish wrote in The Sunday Post: “Leigh came out after the game and said he wants to be the No.1 striker – and that’s what he should be aiming to be.

“It would be much more concerning for Brendan and the supporters if the player didn’t seem bothered at being on the bench.

“If that was his attitude, then it would set the alarm bells ringing. But that is most definitely not the case.”

Number one striker

Griffiths is one of the best strikers in the Scottish Premiership, and with Moussa Dembele gone, the Scotland international should be leading the line for Celtic.

True, there’s Odsonne Edouard, but the French forward is only 20 years of age and is not exactly in great form at the moment.

Moussa Dembele exit

Meanwhile, former Celtic striker Craig Beattie has said that it was not a mistake for the Hoops to sell Dembele.

The former Fulham striker joined French club Lyon from Celtic in the summer transfer window.

Beattie told The Scottish Sun: I don’t think it was a mistake to get rid of Dembele. “They couldn’t turn down the money. They could have kept him, he gets injured, then he is worth next to nothing."
