Gjanni Alioski's holding onto Leeds spot by his fingernails after goal

Gjanni Alioski was hugely disappointing as Leeds United lost for the first time in the Championship this season.

While no player in Leeds' side hardly covered themselves in glory at the weekend as they were beaten by Birmingham City at Elland Road, it could certainly be argued that Gjanni Alioski put in the most disappointing performance.

The winger started the season in sensational fashion, but the Whites fans are experiencing a similar feeling to the one they had last year when the Macedonia international failed to sustain his form after a blistering start.

And his performance on Saturday left many supporters urging Marcelo Bielsa to make a change for Friday's trip to Sheffield Wednesday. He struggled to stay onside, and when he did, he often wasted possession as Birmingham played out their game-plan to perfection.

It would be a huge surprise if even Bielsa - who has shown plenty of patience with his team selections thus far - did not have serious concerns about keeping Alioski in the starting lineup for the game at Hillsborough.

Even with his brilliantly-taken goal on Saturday - his third of the season for Leeds - Alioski should be considered a major doubt for Friday, especially with Stuart Dallas coming on and impressing and Jack Clarke clearly waiting in the wings for an opportunity.

Dallas is not being used as a winger by Bielsa, but his versatility clearly appeals to the head coach and he could perhaps be someone who comes onto his radar if he decides to make a change out wide.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell slipped up for the first time since coming in as number one, while the likes of Mateusz Klich and Kalvin Phillips undoubtedly struggled. But if anyone is going to be dropped, you would imagine that many fans will be tipping Alioski for the chop.

If he finds himself in the starting lineup on Friday, he can arguably consider himself extremely lucky on this occasion. And perhaps he would have his one moment of weekend brilliance to thank for allowing him to hold onto his spot by his fingernails.
