Andriy Yarmolenko has told Sky Sports that West Ham United fans have shocked him since he moved to London.

Yarmolenko joined West Ham this summer from Borussia Dortmund in a £17.5 million transfer (Sky Sports), and when the winger arrived he did not realise the size of the club he was joining.

The Ukrainian says that he was expected London to be full of Arsenal and Chelsea fans, but he has been left surprised by just how much support the Hammers have.

He said: “There seems to be many fans of West Ham and that’s really surprised me. In Ukraine people think in London, they only support Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham. But West Ham are a very big team with amazing fans.”

Yarmolenko has started to make a big impression at West Ham, after a slightly slow start to the season.

The winger has forced his way into Manuel Pellegrini’s starting line-up, after scoring twice in their recent victory against Everton.

And Yarmolenko could have been a hero again yesterday, when West Ham took on Chelsea.

The summer signing had a brilliant chance to hit the back of the net, but put his header wide, with the game ending as a 0-0 draw.
