Darren Moore's men went into the game off the back of a run of three wins in their previous four games in all competitions. But the Lions managed to frustrate them for much of the fixture.
Dwight Gayle scored the contest's opening goal with just over 20 minutes remaining as a scramble in the six-yard box allowed the striker to continue his brilliant form.
And Kieran Gibbs would ensure that the points would go to the Baggies as he doubled the lead eight minutes later. The cross that eventually allowed the left-back to score came from Mears, who was brought on as a substitute shortly before Gayle's opener.
Moore took a bit of criticism on social media for throwing Mears on when Matt Phillips needed replacing, but there were plenty of supporters who were delighted to see the 35-year-old drown out his critics with the assist.
Understandably, some of the supporters have now labelled Mears the best right wing-back in the world and have compared the former West Ham and Marseille man to Dani Alves.
Here is what some of the supporters made of Mears' display and assist...
Great to see Mears stepping up when Phillips went off injured. Proved a lot of fans wrong #wba— Luke Baker (@LukeyJ_Baker) September 22, 2018

I thought subs did well today. Settled the ship a little. Moore hasn’t used his subs well in the past.— Jase B (@WBA78part2) September 22, 2018
Tyrone Mears instant impact. Best RWB in the world. Not even up for debate.— Sol (@Rondxnn) September 22, 2018
