Tottenham Hotspur’s Erik Lamela was reportedly lined up to join Inter Milan.

According to a report by Calciomercato, Inter Milan backed out of a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Erik Lamela when offered the chance to sign him. The player was reportedly keen on the switch.
The Italian publication claims Lamela was offered to Inter through then sporting director Walter Sabatini in March, in a deal worth around £31 million.
Sabatini, however, departed Inter and, and after a change in sporting strategies, Lamela’s proposed move was scrapped – despite the report claiming that the player would have accepted a move back to Serie A.
Inter subsequentky went on to buy the likes of Politano and Keita Balde over the summer, while Lamela remained at Spurs where he has so far featured for just 120 minutes in all competitions.
Question marks remain over whether the Argentine can work his way into Tottenham’s first-team plans, having predominantly been a squad player under coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Big things were expected of Lamela following his switch to north London from Roma, but the 26-year-old has struggled to nail down a regular spot and often disappointed when given the opportunity to play.

With the likes of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Lucas Moura and Son Heung-Min for competition, Lamela’s first-team prospects don’t look great going forward.
The story came out following Inter’s recent 2-1 Champions League win over Tottenham, where to some surprise Lamela was selected to start. He featured for 72 minutes before being withdrawn.
