Rangers are due to face Villarreal later this evening, and Morelos is suspended for the tie.
The Colombian striker was given the option to remain at Ibrox, but he decided that he wanted to support his teammates.
And Gerrard said: “It’s brilliant and it was Alfredo’s decision. It was optional for a couple of players and one decided to stay, one decided to come.
“I’m absolutely delighted he’s come as it shows me he wants to be part of it and cheer his team-mates on.
“The option was to train one on one with a physio or sports scientist or come and support his team-mates and help in a different way. I’m absolutely delighted he’s come.”
Rangers are unbeaten in Europe so far this season, but their match against Villarreal will be a huge test.
The La Liga side are among the contenders to be winning the trophy in May, so Rangers will have to be at their very best to avoid defeat.
Morelos’ absence is undoubtedly a blow for Gerrard, as the striker’s pace could have been vital on the counter, but it is likely Kyle Lafferty will start up-front in his absence.
If Rangers could beat Villarreal then Gerrard will become the first manager in the club’s history to win in Spain.
