Jermain Defoe sent a message to Josh Maja after the Sunderland striker picked up an award for his form.

Jermain Defoe has taken to Twitter to send a message to congratulate Josh Maja after the Sunderland striker was named the EFL Young Player of the Month for August.
Maja made a stunning start to the new season. The Black Cats have established themselves amongst the early pace-setters in League One, and Maja’s form has been a key reason behind their early promise.
The forward scored four goals in five league games for Sunderland. And he has been rewarded by being named the top youngster in the EFL for the first month of the campaign.
And his former teammate Defoe has reached out to the teenager on social media to congratulate him on the award.

Here is the message that Defoe sent to Maja…
The task facing Maja now is to rediscover that early form. The youngster has only scored once in his last five games in all competitions for Jack Ross’ men, and that has come at a time when the Black Cats’ results have taken a dip.
They go into Saturday’s game against Rochdale looking to end a run of four fixtures without a win. And with Ross not having many striker options to pick from, the pressure is arguably on Maja to get back to the level that he was at last month.
