The former Leeds striker made the comments following the West Yorkshire outfit’s 1-1 draw with Millwall away from home at The Den in the Championship this past Saturday.
Alioski started the match for Leeds and played for the entire 90 minutes, as it ended in a 1-1 draw.
Whelan was not entirely impressed with the performance of the 26-year-old Macedonia international winger, who joined the Whites from Lugano in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post to be worth £2 million.
Whelan told BBC Radio Leeds about Alioski: “Some of the things he does are great, then there’s that proportion of just mindlessness, not pulling back and checking your run.”
Alioski is a good and tricky winger, but the Macedonia international can be a frustrating player to watch at homes.
The 26-year-old does need to work on his decision-making, and perhaps the Macedonia international will get better this season working under head coach Marcelo Bielsa.
The winger scored seven goals and provided five assists in 40 Championship starts for Leeds last season, according to WhoScored.
So far this campaign, Alioski scored two goals and provided two assists in seven league matches, according to WhoScored.
