Everton lost 3-1 at home to West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.
Everton slipped to their first defeat under Marco Silva as they were beaten 3-1 by West Ham United at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Toffees went into the game unbeaten this season whereas West Ham were without a win or even a point under Manuel Pellegrini, but the form book was turned on its head.
West Ham went in front when Marko Arnautovic ran on to a ball over the top and squared for Andriy Yarmolenko to score, with Jordan Pickford woefully exposed.
Pickford then showed rare poor distribution, which resulted in Yarmolenko cutting in on his left foot and bending the ball into the top corner of the net, beyond Pickford.
Gylfi Sigurdsson's header from a Jonjoe Kenny cross did give Everton some hope before half time, but Arnautovic wrapped up the scoring by finishing off Pedro Obiang's pass.
Everton fans were understandably disappointed with the performance, and a host of players received major criticism on Twitter from supporters during and after the game, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin a particular scapegoat.
Calvert-Lewin started out wide but moved up front when Bernard came on in the first half, but struggled to make any sort of impact, failing to build on his goal against Huddersfield Town last time out.
Fans took to Twitter to claim that Calvert-Lewin simply isn't good enough and is of Championship standard, adding that he is 'absolute bobbins' and should move on in January to get away from Everton fans criticising him, with few impressed with his display against West Ham.
Some proper average players in that team. Not having Holgate or DCL either. Just notngood enough.— Blue cladding (@EFC26PJ) September 17, 2018
Just back from the game. Time to face facts; DCL and Tosun nowhere near the standard required, and the 'Plan B' of Niasse is a tired joke and now beyond embarrassing. Truth is that this team has been declining since Moyes left, like it or not. #EFC #EFCWHU— Paul Robinson (@PCR1878) September 16, 2018
Can anyone tell me what DCL brings to the team?— Sean Rothwell (@sean_efc31) September 16, 2018
Toson-Cenk is the new Brett Angel...only worse! What a waste of £27million. And DCL is second division material. EFC have no forwards.— Henry McDonald (@henrymcdonald) September 16, 2018
DCL was poor— Jack (@EfcJack_) September 16, 2018
We should lock DCL away and only bring him out for cup games against lower division teams. He’s absolute bobbins.— smart those jeans (@EFC_Dan) September 16, 2018
Don’t understand how DCL makes the squad he offers nothing— Jamie Worthington (@Jamiewn_EFC) September 16, 2018
Calvert- Lewin needs to leave Everton for the good of his career ASAP as he’s got absolutely no chance with our fans. You wanted a proven 25 goal a season striker out the door for years so this kid is doomed— Paul Brown (@PaulBrownEFC) September 16, 2018
How Calvert-Lewin has played 90 mins today is beyond me #EFC— Josh Hyde (@josh_hyde95) September 16, 2018
