Steve Bruce has been trying to persuade Aston Villa's new owners to make a move for John Terry.

Steve Bruce, manager of Aston Villa talks to the press during a press conference at the club's training ground at Bodymoor Heath on August 10, 2018 in Birmingham, England.

According to the Birmingham Mail both of Aston Villa’s new owners, Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, have agreed with Steve Bruce that they need to bring in players at the back.

Villa conceded four goals in their last match against Sheffield United, with Bruce’s defensive options looking short.

Villa’s new owners have been keen to oversee a shift in transfer policy, which focuses on targeting youngsters.

Bruce has been trying to persuade the new Villa owners to move for 37-year-old John Terry though, and it seems that he has got his way.

Villa’s owners are now keen to bolster their defence, and Terry is their top target.

Whether Villa will be able to land Terry remains to be seen, but they are facing less competition for his signature now.

Terry spent last season with the claret and blues, and Bruce’s side’s defence looked much more solid with him involved.
