Ryan Babel scored for the Netherlands during their international friendly against France on Sunday evening but was unable to prevent the World Cup winners from earning a 2-1 win - and some Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter.
The 31-year-old has been recalled to the national scene by Dutch manager Ronald Koeman, after starring in Turkey for Besiktas of late with some excellent stats in front of goal.
The former Liverpool ace joined Besiktas in January 2017, after becoming somewhat of a journeyman after spells in Germany, Holland, Turkey, Qatar and Spain with Hoffenheim, Ajax, Kasimpasa, Al-Ain and Deportivo La Coruna.
Since moving back to Turkey with Besiktas, Babel has clocked up 78 appearances for the Turkish giants and scored at an impressive ratio of one goal every three games from out wide with 26 strikes. He has also created 11 assists.
On Sunday, Babel got on the end of an excellent cross from Lyon defender Kenny Tete, bundling the ball home with his first touch past Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.
Babel played at Anfield for three and a half years after joining the Reds from Ajax in 2007 before leaving for Hoffenheim, and some Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter to his performance - with the majority full of praise for their former attacker.
I still love Ryan Babel— Paddy Berger (@TotallyLFC1892) September 10, 2018
Ryan Babel had a good game against the French. A player with so much potential when he joined LFC! - wasn't given enough times to express himself maybe! - but had few good moments in a red shirt! #YNWA— Tee (@mr_notorious_t) September 9, 2018
