Mallan, who joined Hibernian from Barnsley in the summer transfer window, plays with 19-year-old Celtic striker Johnston for the Scotland Under-21 international side.
The 22-year-old former St. Mirren midfielder was impressed with the performance of the teenager for the Scotland Under-21 side against their Andorra counterparts at the Tynecastle Stadium last Thursday evening.
Mallan told The Sunday Post: “Mikey Johnston, you could see him trying to take players on. It was actually a frustrating game for him because they stuck two or three players on him.
“But you could see his quality. He’s playing with Celtic and he’s in and around the first team.”
Celtic future star
Johnston has made a handful of appearances for the Celtic first team so far in his career, but the Scottish youngster is only 19 years of age.
The Scotland Under-21 international has a bright future ahead of him, and one should not be surprised if the teenager establishes himself as the first-choice striker for the Glasgow giants in the coming years.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers himself rates Johnston highly, and described the 19-year-old in July 2018, as quoted by BBC Sport, as “exciting” and “a special talent”.
