Tottenham Hotspur fans have been harbouring two primary fears down the years - and both involve Real Madrid.
The thought of the Spanish giants luring Harry Kane away from North London is a concern that surfaces at the beginning of each transfer window.
But similar applies to Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, who has also reportedly courted interest from the European champions.
And according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, Spurs supporters quite nearly had one of their big fears realised this past summer.
Writing on BBC Sport, Balague claimed that Real tried to hire Pochettino as Zinedine Zidane's replacement at the Bernabeu, only for the Tottenham man to reject them.
Balague wrote: "Real Madrid went for Lopetegui not because he was their manager of choice but because the likes of Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino and Juve's Massimiliano Allegri had turned them down."
If true, it's a major sign of commitment by the Argentine manager and here is how fans of the North London club reacted to the revelation:
That was before Levy stitched him up in transfer window, next time we might not be so lucky!! But he’s a great guy though, with backing & trust in his chairman, he stays.— TUNDE OSOLAKE (@TUNDERINO) September 8, 2018
Next time he will be gone !!— Richard Francis (@rrrgfrancis) September 8, 2018

Pochettino is quite clearly invested in his project at Tottenham, but as some fans pointed out, his rejection likely happened before an unusually quiet transfer window, in which the former Espanyol man was unable to sign any players whatsoever.
The next time Real come knocking, and there will be a next time, perhaps Pochettino would find it harder to say no.
