The transfer window might have closed last week but that has not stopped Nottingham Forest bringing new faces to the City Ground.

24 hours after a deal to sign the Greek free agent Panagiotis Tachtsidis was confirmed, another unattached midfielder is reportedly on his way to the City Ground.

According to the Nottingham Post, Forest are set to sign the 31-year-old former West Brom ace Claudio Yacob, who was released in the summer after six years at The Hawthorns. But how has this latest potential recruit gone down with Forest fans? Well, not very well.

Understandably, the first question on many supporters’ lips is ‘why’? There is already a plethora of experienced central midfielders at the City Ground, not mentioning the highly-rated youngster Ryan Yates.

How can Karanka possibly hope to cram Yacob, Ben Watson, Ben Osborn, Jack Colback, Adlene Guedioura and Tachtsidis into the same starting XI?

Furthermore, landing a defensive enforcer a la Yacob hardly suggests that the infamously pragmatic former Middlesbrough boss is about to finally release the handbrake and encourage more attractive, expansive football from a side who have won just one of six Championship games so far.
