Tottenham Hotspur's failure to sign a single player during the summer transfer window was well documented. But it is not as if a lack of incomings have hindered Mauricio Pochettino's side on the pitch, with Monday's 3-0 humiliation of Manchester United at Old Trafford making it nine points from nine.
And it seems that Spurs’ dearth of signings was not for a lack of trying.
According to Tuttosport, Tottenham were hoping to sign Giovanni Simeone during the summer and even made an offer in the region of £30 million. Fiorentina, however, rebuffed this bid as they are determined to hang onto their prized asset until January at least.
Simeone scored 14 goals in his debut Serie A season for La Viola after his 2017 move from Genoa. The 23-year-old starred on the opening day of this campaign too, scoring and assisting a goal in a Man of the Match display in the 6-1 thrashing of Chievo at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
And Tuttosport adds that Simeone is also a target for Atletico Madrid. Los Colchoneros are coached by his dad, Diego.
It is understood that Spurs are still interested in the lively Argentine centre-forward so don’t rule out a new approach in January, particularly if they need someone capable of taking the pressure off Harry Kane.
