Roy Hodgson was impressed by Jason Puncheon as Crystal Palace beat Swansea City 1-0 in the EFL Cup second round on Tuesday.
Just one day later, however, and a report in TEAMtalk claims that Hodgson could let Puncheon go before the transfer window shuts.
That game at the Liberty Stadium was the 32-year-old’s first outing of the season, having fallen down the pecking order since Hodgson took over from Frank de Boer at the start of the 2017/18 campaign.
Puncheon has been linked with a reunion with his former Palace boss Tony Pulis of late, and TEAMtalk reports that this is very much on the cards. Middlesbrough are understood to be confident of signing the experienced midfielder this week, with a deal expected to be confirmed in the coming days.
Middlesbrough are joint top of the Championship after four games played and Pulis has made it clear that he thinks new signings are essential.
Puncheon would offer a great deal of nous and creativity to a hard-working Boro side. And the report adds that Hodgson will not stand in his way of a move to the Riverside.
So it seems only a matter of time before Puncheon is wearing that red kit.
