Leeds United's terrific start to the season hits a wall.
Leeds United's unbeaten start to the season has come to an end on home turf.
Former Leeds striker Noel Whelan gave his view on the result to BBC Radio Leeds immediately after the final whistle.
Whelan said: "I don't think there was any real spark there this evening. Started the game off slow and sloppy, we never made their keeper work.
"I do feel we got muscled out of it a little bit, against the first physical side we come up against."
Leeds had rotated their team from the side which beat Norwich City 3-0 at the weekend, but Preston also made several changes.
In front of a crowd of 18,000 fans, Preston took the lead after just three minutes and were 2-0 up by half-time.
Manager Marcelo Bielsa brought on Samu Saiz, Mateusz Klich and Ezgjan Alioski in the second half but they were unable to swing the game back in Leeds' favour.
