The former Bolton Wanderers right-back has resurfaced at West Bromwich Albion
Mears' time in English football appeared to be over when, at the age of 31, he left Bolton to sign for Seattle Sounders in America's Major League Soccer.
But after subsequent spells with the Uniteds of Atlanta and Minnesota, the 35-year-old is back on this side of the Atlantic Ocean, linking up with Darren Moore, his former Derby County teammate turned West Brom manager.
And the news has come as quite a shock to those of a Bolton persuasion.
This is what they're saying about the Baggies' latest recruit on Twitter...

West Brom, who are said to have pursued a new right-back throughout the summer, recently allowed Allan Nyom to join Leganes on loan, further increasing Moore's need to strengthen in Mears' position.
It is claimed the Baggies pulled out of deals for James Tavernier, Tom James and Jack Stacey, while nothing came of Martin Cranie's trial.
Bolton fans - is Mears really that bad a signing for West Bromwich Albion?
