Southampton winger Josh Sims has joined Reading for the remainder of the season, and Saints fans appear divided on the move.
Sims is highly regarded by the south coast club and he is expected to be a big hit at The Madejski Stadium during his loan spell.
Southampton endured a poor campaign last season, and have only one point from two games early on this term. And a section of fans are questioning the decision to let the pacey winger leave. The 21-year-old is mostly remembered for his Premier League debut against Everton in 2016 - assisting Charlie Austin's winner inside the first minute after a mazey run down the flank.
Such speed and guile saw him cut through the Liverpool defence in a Legue Cup semi-final in similar fashion, laying the ball off for Shane Long who put Southampton into the final.
However, Sims has gone on to register just 13 league appearances for Mark Hughes' side since his explosive introduction, and his time at Reading will be pivotal to his development.
Here is a look at some of the Southampton fan reaction on Twitter:
Just loaned out some of the only pace we have in our side. Sound, cheers lads. Show them why they should've kept you Josh!— Jack (@LesReedOut) August 20, 2018
Why??? He was an impressive impact player and always played his heart out?! Wasting well needed talent for our season— Dominic M-J (@DominicMorganJ2) August 20, 2018
Wanted to see Josh playing more this year. I guess this will give him more game time though. #SaintsFC— Rich Prosser (@RichProsser) August 20, 2018
Sad day. Should be given a chance to play. He's quick, Intelligent and creative - something the first XI lacks badly— Gary (@FreddieNonsense) August 20, 2018
All the very best Josh, hope you get plenty of game time to show everyone what you can do— Art68⚪️ (@ArthurCogger) August 20, 2018
Of all the young players he has shown the most promise. Pace & trickery, something we have in very small amounts in our current squad. Very strange move...— Niall Prescott (@ThePrester) August 20, 2018
That’s a brilliant move for him. Play week in week out. He’s gonna smash up the championship. @ReadingFC fans, if you thought Adama Traore was good last year wait to see this lad. Rated very highly by many at Southampton #saintsfc #royals— Martin Ferguson (@MartFergie) August 20, 2018
The Southampton way offers a clear pathway to the first team! Just apparently not Southampton’s first team. What a shame! I hope he has a great season and we integrate him next year into our first team— Richard (@richargr001) August 20, 2018
Thought he could’ve been a nice impact throughout the season, shame. But good luck josh and come back better lad— Elyounoussi (@RahilMajid) August 20, 2018
