Crystal Palace couldn't upset the odds and beat Liverpool on Monday night, as the Reds picked up a 2-0 win at Selhurst Park in an action-packed game.

The Eagles beat Fulham 2-0 on the road in their first game of the new season, and were hoping to spring something of a surprise by beating Liverpool at home.

Unfortunately for Roy Hodgson's side, they couldn't grab that win, and James Milner opened the scoring from the penalty spot following a trip on Mohamed Salah inside the box.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka was then sent off for fouling Salah when clean through on goal, and Salah later set Sadio Mane away to round Wayne Hennessey and bag the second in a 2-0 victory for the visitors.

Palace put up a superb fight and were deservedly applauded off the pitch by their fans, and even West Ham United fans had words of praise for one Eagles star.

Defender James Tomkins impressed yet again in the heart of the Palace defence, and left many Hammers fans on Twitter asking just why he was allowed to leave the London Stadium in 2016.

Since then, West Ham have brought in Havard Nordtveit, Jose Fonte, Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena, yet the most consistent performer is clearly Tomkins, leaving fans to question the club's transfer business.

Hammers supporters called Tomkins 'solid', 'phenomenal' and 'a wall' after his performance against Liverpool, with many stating that West Ham made a stupid decision in selling their homegrown centre back to Palace.
