According to the Daily Star, Bournemouth have rejected a loan bid from Rangers for defender Jack Simpson, following Eddie Howe's stance about the player.
The Gers have been busy in the transfer market this summer, adding 11 players to Steven Gerrard's squad as Allan McGregor, Jon Flanagan, Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, Borna Barisic, Lassana Coulibaly, Scott Arfield, Ovie Ejaria, Jamie Murphy, Ryan Kent and Umar Sadiq have all arrived.
Rangers are excelling in the early stages of Gerrard's reign, and whilst he has quite literally signed a whole new team if he wanted to field all of his signings, he is still looking for more.
Another centre back – preferably left-footed – is wanted by Gerrard as cover for Goldson and Katic, with a host of options linked, though the Daily Record recently claimed that Bournemouth's Jack Simpson was a top target.
Howe does have Nathan Ake, Steve Cook and Simon Francis at his disposal, but with a thin squad, he seemingly wants to keep Simpson in his squad as cover in the heart of the Cherries defence.
That leaves Rangers having to look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements, and Gerrard will be desperate to sign his centre back sooner rather than later, with the Europa League tie against FC Ufa on the horizon.
