League One Sunderland had looked set to sign Liam Millar but the Liverpool starlet remains with the Premier League giants for now.

Liam Millar to Sunderland seemed like pretty much a done deal back in July.
The Sunderland Echo claimed that 18-year-old striker Liam Millar was set to arrive at the Stadium of Light after finishing the 2017/18 season as the highest goalscorer in Liverpool’s academy.
Over a month later, however, Millar is still nowhere to be seen on Wearside. Though Liverpool’s U23 boss Neil Critchley has suggested that the teenager could still be on his way before the end of the month – as long as his potential new club are the right fit.
“I believe Liam had some interest but it’s nothing new,” Critchley told the Liverpool Echo.
“I think a couple of clubs were keen on Liam but until it’s concrete and someone makes a serious offer there’s no decision to take.”
“Liam is still here. Maybe that will change between now and August 31 but it would have to be the right club and the right move for them and us. He wouldn’t want anyone going somewhere where we thought it would be detrimental to their development.”

Sunderland have endured a difficult couple of seasons, going from the Premier League to League One in a year. But a number of exciting academy prospects have at least given the fans something to look forward too with Bali Mumba, Josh Maja, Elliot Embleton and the now departed Joel Asoro all making their mark in recent weeks and months.
Jack Ross, meanwhile, is someone who trusts in youth, having provided a platform for Lewis Morgan and Stevie Mallan at St Mirren. Millar, who scored eight times in 18 U18 games for Liverpool last season, would fit right in.
