Jack Marriott has impressed on his Derby County debut, despite failing to hit the back of the net.
Marriott was selected to start for Derby when they took on Oldham Athletic last night by Frank Lampard for the first time following his move from Peterborough United.
Looked lively, pressed well. Had one scruffy chance off a corner which he hit over!— Tom Seabridge (@Seabo20) August 14, 2018
HT thoughts from @TomDCFC87 : Marriott will become a fan favourite; works hard and tidy on the ball. #dcfc still finding their way with 433. Evans looks good when distributing wide. Mount needs to learn defensive responsibilities.— Steve Bloomer's Washing (@SteveBloomerPod) August 14, 2018
Marriott looks good, strong, quick, shifty - unfortunate not to have scored...— Cameron Storer (@Cam_Storer) August 14, 2018
Nice to be back early after a game for a change! Marriott Malone FloJo and Tomori have to be in our regular eleven. #dcfc— Stuart D. Faulkner (@StuartDerbyManc) August 14, 2018
Marriott probably should have scored at least a couple, but he looks sharp. His link up play is very good, comes deep to get involved too. Runs everything down.— Richard (@dcfc87) August 14, 2018
Marriott’s general play was outstanding I thought.— StuartF (@sjforsyth) August 14, 2018
Derby picked up a 2-0 win in the contest, and Rams fans were largely impressed by their new signing, although he failed to hit the back of the net.
Marriott could become Derby’s first choice striker this season when he is fully fit, but he has plenty of competition.
Dave Nugent and Martyn Waghorn are also vying for places in Lampard’s starting line-up, which leaves competition fierce.
Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount were Derby’s scorers last night, as they made it through to the second round of the Carabao Cup.
Derby are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Millwall in Championship action at the Den.
