West Bromwich Albion’s chances of landing Joel Ward from Crystal Palace may have taken a boost due to Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s brilliant opening day display.

Wan-Bissaka took Ward’s place at right-back towards the back end of last season, and he was handed the nod for Palace against Fulham.

The youngster was one of the Eagles’ stars, as Roy Hodgson’s side picked up a 2-0 win at Craven Cottage, and that could be great news for West Brom.

Ward is the more experienced option at right-back for Palace, but every good performance from Win-Bissaka is likely to increase Hodgson’s trust in the prospect.

That, in turn, could make him more willing to allow Ward to leave to join West Brom, in what would be a boost for Darren Moore’s side.

West Brom have certainly not looked rock solid at the back over their early Championship matches, and tightening up their defence is likely to be a priority for Moore.

The Sun on Sunday (12/08, page 59) claim that Ward is now a target for West Brom.

And the Baggies will be wanting Win-Bissaka’s excellent form to keep up, as it could aid their chances of landing Ward.
