Not so long ago it did not look feasible for Mateusz Klich to have a long-term future at Leeds United.

Much was expected of Klich when he moved to Leeds from FC Twente in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post to be worth £1.5 million.

The Poland international midfielder failed to make a huge impact at Elland Road in the first half of last season, and the 28-year-old moved to FC Utrecht in the January transfer window on loan until the end of the 2017-18 campaign.

Not many will have expected Klich to be part of Marcelo Bielsa’s squad for the 2018-19 campaign, but the midfielder is still Leeds and has established himself as a key figure for the team already.

The former Twente midfielder has featured in both of Leeds’s Championship matches this season, scoring two goals and providing one assist in the process, according to WhoScored.

The Poland international played well for Leeds against Derby County away from home at the Pride Park Stadium in the Championship on Saturday evening.

Former Leeds defender Tony Dorigo was following the match, and he was impressed with the performance of the midfielder and the turnaround in his fortunes.

Leeds fans have also been impressed by the way the midfielder has become such an important player for Bielsa’s team.
