McGinn has joined Villa in the Championship in England from Scottish Premiership club Hibernian in the summer transfer window.
Scottish Premiership giants Celtic wanted to sign McGinn from Hibernian in the summer transfer window, according to BBC Sport.
St. Mirren manager Stubbs worked with the 23-year-old midfielder at Hibernian, and he has spoken highly of the Scotland international.
Stubbs told BT Sport about McGinn: “He could end up being a real bargain for Villa. He could end up being a revelation.
“He connects so easily with fans because of his style of play and it’s a perfect suit for him at Villa.
“Celtic were in for him too and they would have been a great fit for him too. I’m sure Brendan Rodgers will be disappointed but I’m just delighted for John.”
Good signing for Aston Villa
Although Celtic do have enough quality midfielders, McGinn would have been a smart signing for the Hoops and would have been a huge success in the long run.
Villa fans should be looking forward to watching the youngster in action, and McGinn himself should be confident about being a success in the Championship in England.
