Leeds United and Rangers are considering £1.5 million offers for Steven Caulker, according to the Daily Mirror’s live blog (Wednesday 8th August, 08:48).

And Leeds and Rangers could be in luck, with the newspaper claiming that Dundee are hoping to turn a swift profit on the centre-back they picked up for nothing six months ago.

It adds, however, that the pair could face competition from foreign clubs for Caulker, who began last season at Queens Park Rangers.

The 26-year-old has revived his career in Scotland, and the chance to remain there with Rangers – now managed by his former England colleague Steven Gerrard – could appeal.

Although Caulker may be attracted by a move to Leeds – one which could help to rebuild his reputation south of the border.

It is not the first time this summer that Leeds and Rangers are said to have been pursuing the same player, with another centre-back, Kyle Bartley, one alleged mutual target.

Leeds have until 5pm on Thursday to conclude a permanent deal for Caulker, although they can still make loan signings (including those with agreements to be made permanent in January) up to and including August 31st, when Rangers’ transfer window ends.
