Alfredo Morelos is once again at the centre of speculation surrounding his future at Scottish Premiership giants Rangers despite a difficult start to the 2018/19 season.
The Colombian struggled in the final few months of the last campaign and has found goals hard to come by again after the summer break, notching just once in five games under Steven Gerrard. And, to make matters worse, he was sent off just 12 minutes into the weekend’s league opener against Aberdeen.
But this is not stopping clubs in France from having a serious look. Foot Mercato reported on Monday that Rennes and Bordeaux are interested in the 22-year-old – and it is links with the former that are perhaps the most intriguing.
Because Rennes have been keeping tabs on Morelos now for at least the last seven months. The Daily Record (live blog, 8.11am) reports that the Brittany-based club were interested in January before they landed Diafra Sakho from West Ham instead for £8 million (Sky Sports).
It remains to be seen whether the Ligue 1 outfit would be willing to pay a similar fee for Morelos. It is now known how much Rangers would demand but they rejected bids in the region of £8 million from China at the start of 2018.
