Newcastle United could be about to take a big risk by selling Adam Armstrong to Blackburn Rovers.
According to Sky Sports, Newcastle have agreed a fee with Blackburn for Armstrong of £3 million, with the transfer likely to go through in the next few days.
While the striker has made very little impact on the first-team at St. James’ Park, selling him seems like a gamble this summer.
Rafael Benitez has found it very difficult to strengthen up-front, and if Armstrong goes on to impress, he may regret letting him go.
Newcastle’s striking talent at the moment consists of Yoshinori Muto, Dwight Gayle, Ayoze Perez and Joselu.
It is fair to say that all four of the quartet have question marks over them at Premier League level, and even if Salomon Rondon does join, Armstrong would have offered Newcastle a different option.
The youngster is blessed with raw pace, and although he may not be the finished article, letting him go on a permanent deal, while Benitez’s forward options look fairly weak, may not be a smart move.
