Championship promotion hopefuls West Bromwich Albion are reportedly set to sign Tosin Adarabioyo from Premier League champions Manchester City on loan.
Considering that Pep Guardiola is renowned for setting fresh-faced youngsters on their path to stardom, it can be considered something of a surprise that Tosin Adarabioyo has not been given an opportunity at Manchester City.
The Premier League champions were so keen to stop the talented centre-back leaving that they handed him a £25,000 a week contract in 2017, according to The Mail. But in two years under Guardiola, Adarabioyo has not made a single Premier League appearance.
And The Mail is now reporting that West Brom are set to land the 20-year-old on a season-long loan, beating off competition from Midland rivals Wolves. But this does not mean that Guardiola does not rate the England youth star.
Speaking to Fox Sports in 2016, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss spoke glowingly about one of City’s most impressive youngsters.
“Tosin has a lot of steps to get him better. It’s not done, but he has all the quality,” Guardiola said.
“He is fast, strong in the air, and has the quality to look forward behind the line for the next pass. He definitely has a future in the first team. He is a nice guy, his mind is open, he listens, he trains every day like it’s the last training of his life and I like to work with these kinds of players a lot.
“Against true, tough teams – Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich (in pre-season) – he played very well.”
A West Brom side who have lost Jonny Evans and Gareth McAuley this summer, then, could be about to snap up an excellent signing.
