The 28-year-old defender has had a disappointing pre-season for Manchester United.
Manchester United's disappointing US pre-season tour continued on Saturday night as they slipped to a 4-1 defeat against rivals Liverpool, with fans left particularly unimpressed with defender Matteo Darmian.
Daniel Sturridge put Liverpool ahead before youngster Oluwaseyi Ojo scored from the penalty spot, and new signing Xherdan Shaqiri capped off the performance with an excellent bicycle kick.
Damian, who has been linked with a move to Napoli, looked unable to keep up with the speed of play and defensively could not handle Liverpool's forwards.
Going forward the 28-year-old, who wore the captain's armband, offered very little and was outshone by Dimitri Mitchell on the opposite flank.
The Italian, who arrived at Old Trafford in July 2015 from Torino for £16 million, was a familiar figure under Louis van Gaal but has been more of a bit-part player under Jose Mourinho.
With the arrival of Diogo Dalot and the apparent return to fitness of Luke Shaw, Darmian appeared surplus to requirements and Talksport reported he was on his way to Juventus earlier this month.
Following his performance against Liverpool on Saturday night, some United fans made it clear they felt it was time for the 28-year-old to leave the club.
Darmian has been atrocious at RB. Shaw has like 5 great games and 1 terrible one, he hasn't been the same since the leg break. Also Young has been deadly at LB, so makes no sense to keep out an player in form.— UrbanYogi (@kirangokarn) July 29, 2018
First thing I said when this match was over, Darmian needs to go!— Devon T (@WhoDatSamoa) July 28, 2018
Yes, that game was a reassuring heads up (if we even needed more) showing that Darmian needs to go...asap— Joshua Johnson (@ManLikeJJ) July 28, 2018

Young and Valencia ain’t that bad after all
Trying to work out whom is the worst player between darmian and McTominay— Manchester United No1 Fan (@Living_piece) July 28, 2018
Yes I agree and Darmian should leave the club forever not on loan, he just isn't good enough.— Ronak Parekh (@Rparekh96) July 28, 2018
Matteo Darmian should just board the next available plane to Italy— Yorin Isaac (@YorinIsaac) July 28, 2018
Darmian is actually diabolical. Would pay some of my own money to get him out the club? How much is an Uber from Manchester to Italy anyways? #MUFC— Jamie Rogan (@jamierogan91) July 28, 2018
