According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (29/07; page 63), Aston Villa's new majority shareholders will look to turn to Jorge Mendes when it comes to transfers this summer rather than Steve Bruce - with the super agent already working on the deal that is set to see Andre Moreira move to Villa Park on loan.
It has probably been a summer full of anxiety for Bruce following their play-off final defeat at the end of last season. The Sun on Sunday reports that he kept his job at Villa Park following the arrival of new owners but will have fewer powers at the club.
And it appears that one of the tasks that has been taken somewhat out of Bruce's hands is recruitment, with Mendes working to get Moreira in on loan for the coming campaign.
The Sun on Sunday (29/07; page 63) reports that Mendes and his allies are looking to get four more signings done before the window closes as the Villa owners look to take a page out of Wolves' playbook after they secured the Championship title last season with Mendes heavily involved in the signings that Nuno Espirito Santo had to work with.
It would be little surprise if many of the Villa fans were delighted with the news that Mendes is looking to help the club in the transfer market. While it seems an unorthodox way of doing business in the window in England, Wolves have shown how effective it can be to use Mendes' contacts.
And if Villa can add a couple of exciting additions to their existing squad, it could undoubtedly turn out to be a significantly better season for the club than anyone would have expected earlier in the summer when there were rumours flying around that administration may be on the cards and selling their key players may be essential.
