Newcastle United have been linked with Porto’s Vincent Aboubakar before.

According to a report in Estadio Deportivo, Sevilla are interested in Porto striker Vincent Aboubakar with the player reportedly available for around £18 million; a fee that could be within Newcastle United’s reach.

The Magpies have been linked with the Cameroon international before, with Futbol Arena reporting that Newcastle were hopeful of signing him in a £9 million deal last summer.

Aboubakar initially struggled at the Portuguese club and was subsequently loaned out to Turkish giants Besiktas, where he notched an impressive 12 goals in 16 starts, inspiring the club to the league title.

Porto then brought him back last summer, and his terrific form earned him a new five-year contract with a whopping £45 million release clause, reported by the BBC.

The 26-year-old scored 24 goals in all competitions last season, establishing himself as one of the best strikers in Portugal right now yet, despite his burgeoning reputation, he could move on for a moderate fee this summer.

Estadio Deportivo claim Porto will seek around £18 million for him should Sevilla come calling and, at that figure, Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle would be wise to reignite their interest and try to tempt him to Tyneside.

The Magpies are in desperate need of reinforcing their attack, even amid news of Yoshinori Muto’s impending arrival (the Sun), and Aboubakar could be the man to spearhead them towards a top 10 spot.

The likes of Dwight Gayle and Ayoze Perez are not prolific enough at Premier League level, while Aleksandar Mitrovic could end up joining Fulham on a permanent basis following his successful loan spell there.

Aboubakar, standing at 6ft, is strong, direct and knows where the net is. Newcastle made an error by not signing him previously, and they could regret it again if he ends up joining La Liga side Sevilla.
